Conkwright Middle School Standardized Dress Code


All Conkwright Middle School students are expected to be in compliance with all guidelines of the school dress code. The principal under special circumstances may grant temporary waivers.

1. Shirts may be any solid color. Logos will be permitted but should not be larger than a quarter. Shirts must have a collar or turtleneck, long or short sleeve (no sleeveless), and can be knit or oxford style (no see-through materials). No stripes or contrast stitching on shirts is allowed.
2. Slacks, shorts or skirts -- must be solid color in black, navy, or tan. No jean material or cargo pockets (pockets with dimension or on the side of the pant leg) are allowed. Girls may also wear solid color jumpers in navy, black or tan. Items not allowed to be worn as slacks include jogging pants, leggings, warm-ups, overalls, parachute pants, or windbreakers. No stripes or contrast stitching is allowed.
3. V-neck, cardigan or crewneck sweaters or sweatshirts-- may be worn over the collared or turtleneck shirt and may be any solid color. Students may substitute a Conkwright School sweatshirt to be worn over the collared shirt.
4. Students must wear shirts tucked in at all times.
5. A belt must be worn with slacks, skirts, or shorts that have belt loops and must be visible. If clothing item has belt loops, removing them will not negate the use of a belt.
6. All clothing is to be appropriately sized with pants not covering the shoe.
7. Pants and shorts must be worn with the waistline at the waist level. No sagging.
8. No undergarments can be visible.
9. All hats are removed upon entering the building.
10. Other items such as bandannas, scarves, sweat bands, combs, rakes, picks, or rollers are not to be worn as clothing.
11. All outerwear such as coats, hoodies, jackets, oversized shirts, windshirts, hats, (including polar-tech, fleece or quilted) etc., are to be stored in the locker during the school day.
12. Bookbags, backpacks, pouches, backpack purses, fanny packs, etc. are to be stored in the locker during the school day. Per board policy backpacks must be made of clear or mesh material.
13. Non-jewelry chains, including chains attached to wallets or purses may not be worn.
14. No visible body piercing is allowed. Earrings in the ear are allowed. Hair color must be natural shade.
15. Shorts and skirt length must pass the flamingo test. (Leg bent with lower leg parallel to floor, skirt or short hem must touch the back of the calf of the bent leg)
16. Any closed toe shoe is acceptable (no sandals or flip-flops).
17. School ID badge must be visibly worn, either clipped or on a lanyard. Students are not allowed to write on the badge or otherwise deface it.

Clothing, or lack of clothing, other items that are inappropriate, dress that is disruptive to the educational process or potentially dangerous as deemed by school authorities are not permitted.

Students will be expected to be dressed according to code on the first day of school.
New students will be expected to be in compliance on their second day of school.

Exemptions:
• If a teacher is conducting a special class activity that requires special attire, the staff member will seek prior approval from the administration, and contact the parents in writing in advance about the event and type clothing.
• School teams such as basketball, football, cheerleading etc. may wear team outfits on scheduled game and competition days. Coaches will inform the students and seek prior approval of the administration.
• Special days may be designated as school spirit days. On these days, a school or Conkwright team T-shirt or sweatshirt may be worn. Students must be in compliance with the rest of the dress code.
 

If any type of clothing worn in the building leads to confusion or misunderstanding the Administration will make the final decision as to the clothing’s appropriateness. Disciplinary action will be taken for non-compliance.
